Vera Mcculloch Robinson

ROBINSON VERA McCULLOCH Vera McCulloch Robinson, 90, of Buchanan, went to be with The Lord peacefully in her home September 18, 2011. She was born in Warrington, N.C., on October 9, 1920; the daughter of her late parents, Roscoe E. Lester and Ethel Lester Miller. Vera was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Frank McCulloch (Bill), father of her four daughters; her husband O.R. Robinson; sister Ruby Lee Downey; brother, R. E. Lester, Jr., daughter, Wanda McCulloch Shiben and step-father, Peter Miller. After her Father's death at age 4, her Mother moved her young family from N.C. back to her hometown of Buchanan. Vera is survived by her three daughters: Shelby Jean and son-in-law, Sammy Shorter of Buchanan; Joanne McCulloch of Glen Allen, VA and Linda Faye McCulloch of Waretown, N.J.; five grandchildren: Melody Shorter, Leslie Angell and husband, Donnie, Larry Shorter, Scott Caldwell and wife Mary, and Kathy Vining; three great-grandchildren: Daniel Angell, Devon and Madison Caldwell; and special friend Lynette Southern Dodd. Vera was a member of the Buchanan Baptist Church and was actively involved since age 4 until about three years prior to her death, including teaching Sunday School for 39 years and holding various leadership positions. Vera started singing at age 5, continuing in the Youth Choir and in the Adult Choir until 2007, as well as being a charter member of the Botetourt County Chorus. She was faithful in her church mission work and to the people of Buchanan. After a 7-month stay in nursing facilities, in May, 2011, Vera was able to accomplish her wish to return to the comfort of her home where she was tenderly cared for by her beloved live-in caregiver, Ms. Annie Pickerel. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Annie, as well as the caring hospice professionals of The Good Samaritan Hospice for their devotion and dedication to our Mother. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Buchanan Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Woody officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it was Vera's wish that donations be sent to the Buchanan Baptist Church Building Fund (PO Box 537, Buchanan, VA 24066).
