Ted Cooper Durrant, 72, died peacefully Thursday afternoon in is home surrounded by family after a long battle with lung disease. Ted was awarded a Purple Heart during his time as a specialist in the Army serving in Vietnam. He was an expert marksman, competing in and winning many shooting competitions. After leaving the Army, he had different jobs, but his favorite position was "Poppy". Poppy loved to entertain those around him with stories and his pervasive personality. To be around him, was to learn from him. He was an avid student of history with a love of all things outdoors. He was a sportsman who loved to hunt. He was a kind and genuine man, who will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Cooper Durrant and Leonard Max Durrant, sister, Lynda Compagni, brother, Terry Durrant, wife, Shirley Manning Durrant, and step-children, Kenneth Lee Manning, Victoria Anne Manning, Philip LeForrest Manning and son, William Cooper Durrant. He is survived by his wife, Alice Wade Durrant, stepchild, Shannon Manning Fletcher, granddaughter, Kyndra Durrant, as well as other grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces, nephews, family members and valued friends. He lived a life full of fun, adventure, and love. Funeral Services will be held 11 am Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Lithia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5pm Sunday, July 8, 2019 at Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan.
