ROY WOODIE BRYANT, of Lynchburg, Va., formerly of Indian Rock, Virginia, answered God’s call and earned his wings on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Salem VA Medical Hospital. He was born to the late Earnest L. Bryant, and Grace R.D. Bryant Anderson. He served his country honorable in the U.S Army during World War II. Later he worked as a Ferry Operator transporting vehicles from one side of the James River, between Indian Rock, VA and Arcadia, VA. Woodie ended his work career as a Laborer for Dr. Guy Alphin, the local dentist. Woodie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching NASCAR racing, Pro Wrestling and western tv shows. Woodie met and married the love of his life, the late Ella Evelyn Woolfolk Bryant. They were devoted to one another for 56 years, until her death in 2003. They lovingly raised their niece Rose (Cobbs) Barnes from an early age, and a nephew Daryl Williams. He joined the Indian Rock Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized in Greyledge Creek and was later under the Watch Care of St. Paul Baptist Church, Forest Va. (Rev. Dr. Harland L. Brown., Sr., Pastor). He was preceded in death by 7 siblings: Hortense Burrell, Billy Bryant, Benny Bryant, Larry Bryant, Dickie Anderson, Catherine T. (Anderson) Hood, and Gloria Douglas. Left to cherish his memories are one sister, Mary Emma Bryant of Milwaukee, WI and one brother Norvel (Vera) Anderson of Roanoke, VA. Sister-in-laws: Bonnie Anderson of Roanoke, VA, Verna Bryant of Goode, VA, Lynda (Paul) Reed of Ashland, VA, and Susan G. (Larry) Burnett of Goode, VA. Brother-in-laws: Eddie (Mildred) Bryant of Brown Summit, NC, Freddie Bryant of Goode, VA, Roy (Patricia) Bryant of Chesterfield, VA, Alonzo Tyler of Mechanicsville, VA and Todd (Faye) Bryant of Forest, VA. A faithful and devoted niece Rose (Eric) Barnes of Alexandria, VA. A special niece Bertha Williams, of Bedford, VA, and three special nephews: Donovan Anderson and Mark Anderson both of Roanoke, VA and Stacey Anderson of Falls Church, VA. Two special cousins Irene Bannister of Indian Rock, VA and Dion Burrell of Roanoke, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Our loss is deeply felt by all family and friends. He will forever be loved, cherished, and missed. **Special thanks and appreciation to the entire medical staff of 4H and ICU 3 of the Salem VA Hospital for all their tender care during Mr. Bryant’s stay in their medical center. ** Funeral Services 2pm Saturday, February 5, 2022 with visitation one hour before at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Interment will follow Indian Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
