Roy Weldon Breeden

May 3, 1925 — January 13, 2014

Roy Weldon Breeden, 88, of Buchanan, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014. Mr. Breeden was a WW II US Navy veteran from 1943-1946 as an Aviation Electrician's Mate, 2nd Class, then became a Repair Technician with Hobbie Brothers from 1946-1981. He and Dorothy owned and operated the Arcadia Cash Store from 1953 to 1977. Roy was a member and former Treasurer of the Arcadia Baptist Church. He was a member of the Buchanan American Legion. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Branson Breeden and Maggie Vera Bryan Breeden, and was the last surviving child of this union. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Camper Breeden, children and spouses, Melody and Ted Purser of Port St. Lucie, FL, Donna and Jerry Gill of Round Rock, TX, Gerald Breeden of Arcadia, Alice Breeden of Durham, NC, and Ben and Liz Breeden of Advance, NC; grandchildren, Darrell and David Breeden, Christopher and Matthew Breeden, Thomas (Whitney) Assaid, Sara (David) McCradden, Shellie (Damon) Withrow; great-grandchildren, Hannah Breeden, Lila Grace Withrow, Preston Withrow, Taylor Assaid, and Baby Assaid on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and In-laws, Laura Compton, Frances Mundy, Mary Houser, Leon Brannan, Margaret Camper, Lawrence and Ruth Camper, Joe Camper, Paul Camper, Larry and Helen Camper. The family thanks Gentle Shepherd Hospice, all of Dorothy's caregivers, and friends and family that assisted them. Roy's funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 17, 2014 at Arcadia Baptist Church with Rev. Wessley Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, 254-3000.
