Ronald Ray Goad, 65, of Fincastle, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Ronnie was a member of Zion Hill Baptist church, retired from the Cement Plant with over 35 years of service, and enjoyed farming. He loved his family and was an avid reader, a history buff especially of the Civil War, and a wonderful husband, brother, and step-father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Nellie Goad and step-daughter, Sharon Newcomb. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rosalie Hamilton Goad; step-daughter, Rheta Monroe and husband, David of Winston-Salem; step-sons, Greg Newcomb and wife, Gesile of Troutville; Larry Newcomb and wife, Sheila of Fincastle; step-granddaughters, Laura Coleman, Nicole Newcomb, Spenser Newcomb and Holly Newcomb; step-great-grandchildren, Izabella, Logan, Gabriel, and Samantha; sister and brother-in-law, Corrine and Lowell Wood of Fincastle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Kathy Goad of Wirtz; Mike and Cathy Goad of Fincastle; nieces and nephews, Tony Wood, Connie Hayes, Tim Wood, Tracey Wood, Kevin Goad, Amy Wells, McKinley Tucker, and Morgan Goad; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Cancer Society or the Zion Hill Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, May 2, 2014 at Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan. 540-254-3000 "Even thru his battle with his own illness, he took the time to soothe and comfort others during their times of need, especially doting on his wife."
