Rodney Lynn Underwood, Sr., 57, of Fincastle passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Mary Jane Underwood; brother, Mike Underwood; nephew, Cody Underwood; and good friend, JR Kellison. He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Joe Underwood; special sister and friend, Cindy and Eddie Bryant; children and spouses, Rodney "Lynn" Underwood, Jr., Jonothan Underwood, Kristin and Wayne Dooley, Kaitlin Underwood and Jeffrey Falls, Nick and Cassi Mullins, Isaac Underwood, Breanna "Frank" Underwood, Tanner and Katie Sue Underwood, and Randy O'Quinn, special bonus sons, Jonathan Dudley, Billy Ho, and Trey Smith; grandchildren, Lilly Underwood, Dominick Linkenhoker, Manny Linkenhoker, Noah Underwood, Kade Walker Underwood, Hadley "Crickett" Dooley, Conley Jane "Birdie" Dooley, Clinton "Clint" McCoy Falls, Mary Catherine "Blue Eyes" Falls, Amelia Rae "Ray Ray" Falls, Nolen Wayne Mullins, Blane Floyd Underwood, Konrad Lautenbach, and one grandbaby on the way; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jamie and Missy Henry, Tim and Tina Underwood, Jessie and Julie Vest, and Dottie Underwood; sisters, Sherry Underwood and Ruby Lamb; special cousin, Ellis Underwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rod was pawpaw and friend to many and never met a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman and bear hunter who lived for his family and friends. He also had a special passion for horses and mules. Rodney gave his soul to the Lord many years ago. He had many special friends including, Phillip Overfield, Shawn Reese, Kenneth Rife, the Durrant Family, Shannon Hatcher, Brad Ward, Melvin Kellison, the Dooley Family, Kevin Marshall, Linda Rottman, Doug Shetler, Bubby Entsminger, Chip Lawrence, and Talvis Crenshaw. There will be a Celebration of Rod's life for family and friends on the farm at 1277 Hardbarger Rd, Buchanan on Saturday, July 18, 2020 beginning at 6pm. Please dress casually and bring a dish to share. A memorial horseback ride will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2020 on Fringer Trail meeting at the barn at 1277 Hardbarger Rd. beginning at 12noon. All are welcome to bring your horse or follow along in your car. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in Rod's memory to the American Cancer Society or the Virginia Bear Hunter's Association.
