Robert Lewis "Bear" Beckner

Robert Lewis "Bear" Beckner, 86, of Buchanan, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday,May 24, 2019. At his request, there will be a private family graveside service in Fairview Cemetery conducted by his brother, Cleatus J. Newcomb. Bear is survived by his sisters, Shirley B. Bryant and Norma N. Broughman; a brother, Cleatus J. Newcomb; and special nephew, Charles "Pee Wee" Beckner; nieces and nephew, Kitty Edwards, Deanna Newcomb, and Jerry Beckner; great niece, Sarah Anderson; and many cousins. Bear is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys "Biggie" Newcomb; father, Alfred "Al" Beckner; sister, Betty Beckner; and brother, Clarence Beckner. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be given to Carilion Hospice Services of Roanoke, 1615 Franklin Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24016. The family wishes to thank Dr. Glenney, the entire staff of Friendship Manor and Carilion Hospice Services of Roanoke and special friend, Bernadette Dawson for everything- the compassion, the outstanding care, the concern, the visits and food- we cannot adequately express how much we appreciate all you do.
