Robert "Bob" Vincent Jones

Robert Vincent Jones, 61, passed suddenly from this life on Wednesday, Feb 4, 2015, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born December 1, 1953, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Robert Jones and Patricia Jones Evans, he attended Princess Anne High School and then the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a full scholarship where he played football. Bob was retired from the mortgage industry. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and building decks and barns. He was a lifelong student and enjoyed reading, researching and discovering the answers to all life's questions. He loved a good joke and enjoyed trying them out on new audiences. A favorite joy was to spend time with his grandchildren. He was passionate about his family and friends and was an extraordinary caretaker for his horses and dogs. Bob was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church (Fincastle) and enjoyed assisting in the children's student ministries, summer youth camp and trips for senior citizens. Bob is survived by his wife, Scottie Campbell of Fincastle; daughters Joanna Jones of Salem (Brad Morton) and Kathryn Jones of Richmond (Matthew Phelps) and six grandchildren; his mother-in-law Nancy Campbell, of Mint Spring, VA; his step-father, Roger Evans, of Ormond Beach, FL; a sister Nancy Webb of High Springs, FL; and a brother Steve Jones (Marti) of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Jones. A memorial service will be held at Mill Creek Baptist Church, 11475 Lee Hwy, Fincastle, VA 24090, on Monday, Feb 9, 2015 at 11 am in the sanctuary; Interim Pastor Bob Hetherington and J.R. Graybill are officiating. A meal will be provided following. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Sunday, Feb 8, 2015, from 3-6 pm in the fellowship hall, also at Mill Creek Baptist. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church youth ministry.
