Rex Stevens Kelly

Rex Stevens Kelly, 92, of Buchanan, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018. Rex was a member of the Buchanan Baptist Church serving as Deacon, Moderator, and Treasurer, a member of the Buchanan Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as Chief for ten years and helped organize the first Firemen's Carnival to help fund the department, a Charter Member of the Buchanan Rescue Squad for over 25 years, member of the Buchanan Town Council and Mayor for thirteen years, member of the Buchanan Lions Club, former President and Trustee of Weekday Religious Education, owned and operated the G&R Restaurant for many years, a over the road truck driver for Red Lion Trucking, and had retired from James River Limestone. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Springtree Rehab Center, and the support of church members, friends and family for their care of Rex over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, R. D. and Martha Stevens Kelly; sister, Nancy Kelly; brothers and sisters-in-law, Burger and Eunice Kelly, Dickey and Carol Kelly, and Jimmy Kelly. Rex is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gay Sexton Kelly; daughters, Lisa "Chip" Kelly and Amy "Chigger" Kelly. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, April 8, 2018 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Woody, Rev. Darrell E. Naff, and Rev. Brad Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home located at 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, VA. 24066.
