Raymond Luther Meador

Raymond Luther Meador, Jr., 72, of Roanoke, formerly of Fincastle, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond, Sr. and Virginia Mae Bell Meador; brothers-in-law, Billy and Jacob Simmons. He attended Northside High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. Ray was a Charter member of North Roanoke Baptist Church and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher. He had worked for Roanoke Cement for 3o years and had retired from Botetourt County as a Purchasing Manager. He was an active volunteer for the Botetourt County Food Pantry.  A valued Tenor, Ray sang in the Church Choir, Botetourt County Chorus, Northern Botetourt Singers, and sang at many weddings and funerals. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Peggy S. Meador; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelley Renee and Frank L. Cahoon, Jr. of Fincastle, Jenny and Chris Petty of Buchanan; grandchildren, Kaleb Cahoon, Zac Cahoon, and Aaron Petty; sister, Doris (Alvin) DeLong of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Myrtle G. Simmons and Nancy (Douglas) Duffy, all of Fincastle; niece, Cyndee K. (Chip) Basham, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 22, 2017 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastor Lee McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the US Navy. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan.  Flowers are appreciated but those wishing to make a contribution please consider the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P O Box 190, Fincastle, VA 24090.
