Raymond Eldridge Hundley

January 3, 1928 — November 5, 2017

Raymond Eldridge Hundley Jr., 89, of Eagle Rock passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017. Born in 1928 in Troutville, VA, he was a graduate of Troutville High. He became an Eagle Scout and served in the Navy Reserves. He was married to Faye Adamson of Fincastle in 1949 and headed to Eastern VA, where he served as a dairy tester for several years. Raymond later worked as a chemist at the Lone Star Cement Company, before working in forest management for Owens of Illinois, and subsequently, WESTVACO. Active in community service, Raymond served as Scoutmaster of Troop 2 in Clifton Forge, with all three sons eventually joining him in reaching the level of Eagle Scout. He was active member of the Ruritans and served on the Botetourt County Zoning Board of Appeals. With his love of the outdoors, Raymond was an avid hunter and conservationist, and even had the first patent on a portable treestand. The Hundleys have been good stewards of the land throughout the years. Together, they placed more than 600 acres of pristine wilderness in Conservation Easement with the State of VA. An active member of Galatia Presbyterian Church, Raymond served as an elder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. and Kathleen Octavia Hall Hundley; and sisters, Virginia Rae Woody and Jacqueline Rader Overstreet, and brother, Billy Joe Hundley. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Faye Adamson Hundley; sons, Robert Boyd Hundley, Raymond (Ridge) Eldridge Hundley III (Sarah), Stephen Adamson Hundley (Elaine), and daughter, Melissa Hundley; granddaughters, Teresa, Bethany, and Kristin; grandsons, Scott, Rob, Adam, Brad, Matthew, and Liam; great-grandchildren, Briana Eliza Camp, Delilah Rain and Magnolia Blue Hundley and Ezra S. Hultz; sister, Pat H. Osisek of Alexandria. Faye would like to give special thanks to Vicky Dameron and Peggy Broughman for their devoted service, as well as Carillion Health Services of Lexington and Mountain Regional Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Eagle Rock Fire & Rescue Department, PO Box 234, Eagle Rock, VA 24085. Funeral Services will be held 11am Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Galatia Presbyterian Church in Eagle Rock with the Rev. Greg Dixon officiating.
