Patricia Sue Anderson Basham, age 90, of Vinton, passed away on October 31, 2024. She was born on Maple Street in Vinton and grew up on Jeanette Avenue. She graduated from William Byrd High School in the Class of 1952. In 1954, she married Jesse Lee Basham, Jr. Their family grew to include three children, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Pat worked for over 30 years as a child caregiver, primarily for the children of schoolteachers. She is most remembered for the wonderful care and legacy of love she gave to children—her own and others’. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church and singing in the choir and was a member at Thrasher for decades, and then at First Baptist of Roanoke. She loved to crochet and made afghans as gifts for many occasions, particularly baby afghans for newborns. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, in 2000, and their son, Mark, who passed away in 2021. She is survived by her sons Ken (Susan Lewis) and Scott (Carolyn Kelly), her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://act.alz.org donate. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton with Pastor Dale Mullinix officiating.
