Nancy Ellen Heiser Tolley, 70, of Buchanan, Va., passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010. Nancy was born in Williamsport, Pa., on January 9, 1940, to Mr. and Mrs. George B. Heiser. Her childhood was spent in the Williamsport, Pa., area. She graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1958, and obtained her Registered Nurse's license from Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She was a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Travis AFB, California, where she met and married Lloyd E. "Ed" Tolley in 1963. Nancy had a wonderful life full of family, friends, and fun. She was a tease and enjoyed practical joking with folks of all ages. Her best friends were those who responded. She loved her work as a nursery and pediatric nurse and used her skills daily in her own family and the neighborhood children. Her husband's employment took her to the states of Michigan, Texas, South Carolina, and North Carolina as well as the countries of Kuwait and Indonesia. Her gift of gab ensured that she never met a stranger, even though she couldn't speak the language at some stations. Although not a gourmet cook at the onset, she became quite comfortable in the kitchen, but she shied away competition with the Buchanan Presbyterian Church cooks. Nancy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lloyd E. "Ed" Tolley; her sons, Bruce E. Tolley, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Alan Tolley and his wife, Eleanor, and grandchildren, Alex, Blake and Liz, of Belmont, N.C.; Andy Tolley and his wife, Dinna, and grandchildren, Sandra Davis and her husband, Stephen, Andrea Schultz and her husband, Jason; United States Navy Seaman, Drew Tolley, Travis Tolley and Tyler Tolley, all of Texas; Tom Tolley and grandson, Kyle Tolley; one brother, Tom Heiser and his wife, Kay, of Williamsport, Pa.; and one sister, Judy Warren, of Chuluota, Fla. Nancy leaves behind numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Her sons and their friends remember her as, "the Sarge." A private burial will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010, at High Bridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery, followed by a service celebrating Nancy's life at noon on Thursday at Buchanan Presbyterian Church, 19559 Main Street, Buchanan, Va. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Marina Gopadze. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, Va. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, www. woundedwarriorproject.org, WWP National Processing Center, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kan. 66675-8516; Buchanan Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 517, Buchanan, Va. 24066, or to a charity of your choice.
