Mary Nell Campbell Roberts

Mary Nell (Campbell) Roberts, beloved wife, mother, and Mimi, 62, of Weems, VA, passed away on December 9, 2010, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on February 27, 1948, in Luverne, AL, Mary Nell was the daughter of John and Mary (Ballard) Campbell. After graduating from Otsego High School in 1966, she served in the United States Army for nearly two years. While in the Army, she met and married Eugene Dodd Roberts, her husband of 41 years. Mary Nell spent her professional career working first for Anthem in Roanoke, and later, Bank of Botetourt in Buchanan. After leaving Bank of Botetourt, she began her most favorite career as devoted Mimi, retiring to Weems to be near her three adoring grandchildren. Mary Nell was a member of Irvington Baptist Church in Irvington, VA, and attended Virginia Presbyterian Church in Pico, while living in Buchanan. Mary Nell had a gentle, easy manner that endeared her to people. She had amazing faith and dignity, even in the most adverse times. She had a loving, generous heart and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Surviving relatives include her daughter and son-in-law, Robin (Roberts) and John Honnick of Kilmarnock; son, Jon Roberts of Buchanan; three grandchildren, Laura, James, and Ben Honnick of Kilmarnock; mother, Mary Campbell of Plainwell, MI; sister, Elaine Collick of Plainwell, MI; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Cheryl Campbell of Otsego, MI; and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary Nell was preceded in death by her husband, her father, and her brother, Steve. Funeral Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010, in the Buchanan Chapel of the Botetourt Funeral Home with the Reverend Marina Gopadze officiating. Interment will be private.
