Mary Jo Petty Deacon

Mary Jo Petty Deacon, 90, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Bruce Deacon; her parents, John Henry, Sr. and Sadie Jane Painter Petty; brothers, Richard, John, Jr., and Harry Petty; sisters, Ella Williamson and Rossie Willis; in-laws, Arthur Williamson, Jim Willis, Buster Thrasher, Ray Hardbarger, Clarence, Curtis and Patsy, and Bernard Deacon. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Joann D. and Michael Grissom of Roanoke, Sharon F. Deacon of Staunton; son, Mike Deacon and Molly Stafford of Boones Mill; grandchildren, Katelin Deacon, Hunter and Casey Deacon, great-grandchildren, Mason and Mia Deacon; sisters, Joyce Thrasher and Alice Hartbarger; in-laws, Boyd and Laura Deacon, Boliver and Darlene Deacon, Elizabeth Petty, and Nancy Deacon; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2022, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan with Pastor Bill Hinton officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 pm at the funeral home.
