Mary Jane Elizabeth Deacon Smith

Mary Jane Elizabeth "Janie" Deacon Smith, 89, of Eagle Rock, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to an adoring family. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and five brothers. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, James Essie Brown Smith; children and spouses, Diane and Gary Walker of Covington, Donald and Alice Smith of Troutville, Dennis Smith and friend, Barbara Bradley of Buchanan, Dale and Sandy Smith of Eagle Rock, and Delma and Gary Tingler of Eagle Rock; eight grandchildren , nine great -grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; brother and sister-in-law, W.R. "Tink" and Florence Deacon of Lexington; special friends, Lois and Charles Elliott of Fincastle. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan. Her funeral service will be held at 11 am, June 12, 2014 in Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Sandifer officiating. The family will also receive friends at the church from 10 to 11am prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
