Mary Belle Davidson Entsminger

November 26, 1919 — June 13, 2013

Mary Belle Davidson Entsminger "Nanny", left this earthly world after 93 blessed years on Thursday, June 13th, 2013. Born November 26th, 1919 to David and Mary Davidson, Nanny was one of 11 children and spent much of her young life in Roanoke, VA. On May 25th, 1938 she married the love of her life, Harold P. Entsminger, Sr. and lived in love with him for 55 years before his death in 1993. Harold and Mary worked side by side, operating a number of Roanoke businesses for over 35 years including a barbershop, restaurant, grocery store, and antique store all on 24th Street and Shavers Crossing. In 1972 they retired to Springwood Angus Farm in the Springwood community of Botetourt County. The door was always open and no one was ever a stranger. Nanny would greet them with a smile, a hug, and a meal. Many far and wide had the pleasure of enjoying Mary's famous pickles, delicious desserts, home grown vegetables, or other wonderful creations that came from her kitchen. She was always doing for others and her favorite day of the week was Sunday, when for over 30 years she faithfully prepared lunch for her entire family to enjoy. She loved her family more than anything and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was a devoted member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she loved to listen to the music and visit with her church family. She was a lifetime member of the Virginia Angus Association, Virginia Angus Auxiliary, the Roanoke Valley Angus Association and loved nothing more than watching her granddaughters and great-grand-children compete with their 4-H and junior Angus projects. Left behind to cherish her memory are her children: Raymolene (Sissy) Simpson and husband, Price; Harold P. (Bubby) Entsminger, Jr. and wife, Janet. Five grand-daughters and their husbands: Mary Lynne and Kyle Harris, Katherine and David Carter, Patty and Leroy Hamilton, Karen and Darrell Bowman and Kristen Entsminger. Seven great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Meadows and fiancé, Jordan Pinkard, Jacob Bowman, Haley Meadows, Brandon Hamilton, Amanda Bowman, Sarah Harris, and Jenna Hamilton. The family would like to thank Dr. Nevin, the nursing staff, administration and residents of Carrington Place for the care and love they showed Nanny over the last year, along with the doctors and staff of Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital 8 west for treating her with such kindness and warmth. Not a kinder soul or sweeter person has ever walked this earth and God blessed each of us by letting her be our "Nanny". In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Mary's memory to the Mill Creek Baptist Church Building Fund or Good Samaritan Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, June 16th from 3 - 6 pm at the Buchanan Chapel of the Botetourt Funeral Home. A celebration of Mary's life will be held Monday, June 17th, 11:00 am at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. J. Randolph Daniels and J.R. Graybill officiating. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery in Roanoke.
