Linda Mary Dandrade Lyle, 91, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Terre Haute, Indiana surrounded by family and friends, where she lived with her daughter. Linda was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, BWI on March 13, 1919 and was the oldest child of the late Frank and the late Agnes Dandrade. She was educated in Catholic schools on the island of Trinidad and Saint Vincent. During WWII, she worked at the Trinidad Guardian Newspaper and met her future husband, Ivan Lyle, who was Military Liaison with the local railroad and stationed at Base Trinidad. They married on August 19, 1944. She came to Eagle Rock, VA and introduced island food, music, and customs to family and friends. In 1991, she moved to Terre Haute to be near her son, the late Gregory Lyle. She continued to visit through the years. Her church membership was St. Joseph's in Clifton Forge and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches. She loved cooking, shopping for the latest, travel, and last but not least Bingo. Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan "Pappy" Lyle; son, Gregory A. Lyle; parents, Frank and Agnes Dandrade, Earnest and Lillian Lyle; and sister, Peggy Dandrade. Survivors include her son, Ernie and Jane Lyle; daughter, Bridgett Martin and Lee Elliott; grandson, Ernie Lyle, Jr., and children, Miranda, Jessica, Savannah, and Corbin; granddaughter, Nicole and Neal Kemper, and daughter, Jackson; granddaughter, Brittany Martin and Cris McCoy, and son, Jack McCoy; brother, George and Moi Dandrade of North Miami, FL; sister, Gloria Dandrade Batiste of Barbados, BWI; sister-in-law, Annie Lyle of Roanoke, VA; numerous nieces and nephews in the Dandrade and Lyle families; daughter-like friend, Penny Lewis and William Hamilton, close friends and neighbors, Orville Fortner and Suetta Hadley; caregiver, Jean Stinnett; and close Virginia friends: Pat Mays and family, the former Burgess sisters, the Frank Simmons family, the Linthicum family, Janice Vaughn and family, and numerous others. The funeral will be held 11 am Saturday, January 22, 2011 in the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert A. McRae officiating. Interment will follow in Eagle Rock Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 540-884-2276.
