Lewis "Jack" William Leffel

Lewis William Leffel, Jr. (Jack), 74, of Eagle Rock, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis William Leffel and Minnie Miller Leffel. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lynne Leffel; daughters and sons-in law, Dr. Elizabeth Leffel and Darrin Hill, Sara Leffel and Fred Glover, Anna and Chris Weddle; and "Grandjack" to Jacob Hill, Anna Glover, Holly and Macy Weddle; and many dear and close friends. Jack was a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Dairy Science and did graduate work in biochemistry. As lifelong citizen of Botetourt County, Jack was a farmer, owner and operator of James River Agricultural Services, served on the Botetourt County School Board for twelve years, and served on the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors for seven years, most recently as chairman where he oversaw tremendous changes in the county, jumpstarting economic development, supporting agricultural education, and as an advocate for preserving Botetourt's rural character while building and managing economic opportunities for Botetourt youth. Jack was a member of Buchanan Presbyterian Church. He devoted his life to farm, family and community. Jack was a lifelong conservationist and described himself as a grouse hunter who was dedicated to his Ryman Setters. He willingly shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors with any who would abide by his standards, and particularly enjoyed seeing young people become conservationists. He served many years as a Sunday School teacher, youth coach, church youth leader and 4-H leader. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm with memorial services at 5pm all at James River High School on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with the Rev. Marina Gopadze officiating. Flowers are beautiful, but the family requests donations to be made in Jack's memory to the Botetourt Fire & EMS 205 N. Roanoke St., Suite#1, Fincastle, VA 24090
