Leo George Ferris, 85, of Fincastle, passed away peacefully from this life to be with Jesus on Friday, September 18. He was born in Salem, Virginia, March 18, 1930 to the late James L. and Maggie Ferris. He is also preceded in death by his brother James W. Ferris, and nephews Wesley Ferris and Michael Ferris. He is survived by his Andrew Lewis High School sweetheart and loving wife of 65 years, Virginia Garst Ferris, two daughters, Carol Ferris Schoeman and husband Eben, Pam Stump and husband Gregg, three grandchildren, Carrie Stump, John Stump, Matthew Stump and wife Meagan, and three great grandchildren, Elliott, Amelia and Flora Stump. He is also survived by a sister, Phyllis Shore of Sandston, Virginia. Affectionately known to his family as "Eeo", he joyfully devoted his life to his family who dearly loved his kind, thoughtful, gentle and loving spirit. He never missed an opportunity to let his loved ones know they were special. After 39 years of service, he retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1988 as a Resident Engineer in Lexington, Virginia. He served in the National Guard, was a past member of the Rotary Club, and a faithful longtime member of Wheatland Lutheran Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm at Wheatland Lutheran Church, Buchanan, Virginia on Monday, September 21. The family will receive friends at 1 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wheatland Lutheran Church, 1560 Wheatland Road, Buchanan, Virginia, 24066.
