Kathy Graham Sullivan

Kathy Graham Sullivan, 61, of Buchanan, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Underwood Graham. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Bill Sullivan; son Graham Bowen Turner of Richmond; daughter, Kathleen Greer Sullivan of Roanoke; granddaughter, Nova Elizabeth McKenna; father Earl Graham, sister and brother-in-law Vicki and Jack McCorkle of Buchanan; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Stephanie Graham of Roanoke; along with nieces, nephews, and close dear friends. Kathy was a graduate of then Hollins College (now University) where she received a Bachelor of Arts, with honors. She had also been a proud school board member for Botetourt County for 19 years. And for the past 9 years she had worked as director of RAYSAC (Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition). One of her proudest accomplishments was initiating a relationship between the Western Virginia Water Authority and the DEA for a drug take back program called the Roanoke Valley Prescription Drug Task Force, educating the public about proper disposal of prescriptions drugs. Kathy would find peace in her favorite spots around her home in Buchanan, which she called "the compound". You could find her sitting out in the front yard with the three labs admiring the sun setting over the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains or sitting on the veranda with Bill, her father, and her children when they were home. A Celebration of Kathy's life will be held at 6pm, Saturday, November 19, 2016 in the James River High School gymnasium, with the family receiving friends after the service.
