Karl Green Elsea, 72 of Buchanan, VA, passed away September 8th, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh Richard Elsea, Sr and Ruby Gordon Green. He is survived by his wife, Gail Kemp Elsea; brother, Hugh Richard Elsea, Jr.; son, Hugh Douglas Elsea; step-daughter. Kimberly Conner; step-daughter, Suzanne Harris; grandchildren, Dean Harris, Jack Buckner, Ashlynn Conner, Madison Reynolds, Gracie Elsea, and Everett Elsea; and his horse, Charlie. Karl graduated from Virginia Polytechnical Institute in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, where he was a Highty Tighty in the Corps of Cadets. He then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina in 1976 with a masters of business administration and management. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 15 years attaining the rank of Commander, where he received several awards and earned the Marine Safety Device (Trident). He retired from the Roanoke City Public School system where he taught science for 15 years. Karl had many hobbies including fox hunting where he was Huntsman and Master of the Hounds, sailing, competing in the Single Action Shooting Society. He was a published author of research articles about the Revolutionary War, and was a member of the 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Army with whom he was involved Revolutionary War re-enactments and living history events. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A small, private memorial was held by the family.
