Julia Watkins Layman

Julia Watkins Layman, 90, of Buchanan, Virginia passed away on September 22, 2014. She was born August 6, 1924 in Greenlee, VA and was the daughter of the late Adam Eli Watkins and Elsie Campbell Watkins. Mrs. Layman was a longtime member of Buchanan Baptist Church. She retired as a cafeteria worker at Buchanan Elementary School. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Layman and son, David Layman of Buchanan. She was also preceded by brothers, Bud Watkins, Frank "Jake" Watkins, Doss Watkins, and Sheridan Watkins; sisters, Violet Watkins, Edith Stoner, Audrey Watkins, and Susie Foster. Julia is survived by daughter-in-law, Ann Layman of Buchanan; sons, Allen L. Layman (Marsha) of Roanoke and Danny Layman of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Doug Layman (Carrie), Lisa Layman Virto, Ashton Eubank (Mark), Erin Yandow (Tyler), Justin Layman and Jackie Gehndyu (Janjay); great-grandchildren, Savannah, Emma, Madison, Nicolas, Grace, Noah, Logan, Mason and Adalynn; sister, Alice Jenkins; brother, Calvin Watkins; sisters-in-law, Jewell Watkins, Martha Watkins, and Audrey Watkins. The family would like to thank all of the caring and compassionate staff of the 4th floor staff at the Health and Rehab Center of Friendship for the care of Julia during her stay. Visitation with the family will be held at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 11am-12:30pm with the funeral service to follow at 12:30pm. Rev. Mike Woody will be officiating the service.
