John Henry Petty,

PETTY John Henry, Jr. John Henry Petty, Jr., 86, of Buchanan, passed from this life on Monday, November 3, 2014. Born on Bratton's Run in Goshen, Virginia on July 30, 1928, he was a son of the late John Henry Petty, Sr. and Sadie Painter Petty. John was retired from the U S Navy and worked for Davis Mechanical Contractors. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Arcadia Baptist Church where he held many positions including Deacon and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He also served as a representative of Botetourt County for Mental Health Services of the Roanoke Valley and on Botetourt's Electoral Board. He loved sports, was an avid golfer, and a true Southern gentleman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Richard, and Harry; brothers-in-law, Atwell (Buster) Thrasher, Bruce Deacon, Arthur Williamson, Ray Hartberger, James Willis, and Grover Walker. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Elizabeth Walker Petty; daughter, Myra Elaine Petty; sisters, Ella P. Williamson, Mary P. Deacon, Rossie P. Willis, Joyce P. Thrasher, and Alice P. Hartberger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Wanda Walker, Donald and Jeanie Walker, Lloyd and Gloria Walker, Cheryl W. and Larry Frontiero, Rebecca W. and Carl Chambers, and Rose Petty; also many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Woody officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan.
