Jimmy Louis Thompson Sr., 65, of Fincastle, Virginia, went to be with his Savior on July 29, 2020 at 2:27 am following an illness. Jimmy was retired from Roanoke City Schools after twenty six years of service. He was born July 21, 1955 in Fincastle, Virginia to Herbert H. Thompson and Josephine Thompson. He was preceded in death by his sister Patsy Thompson and his father, Herbert Hoover Thompson in 1997. Jimmy graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1974. Jimmy was a dedicated member of the Lily of the Valley Baptist Church, where he served as Trustee and groundskeeper faithfully for many years. Jimmy so enjoyed working for the church. Jimmy was a lover of sports; he coached t-ball, coach pitch and basketball for many years. He really enjoyed the years when he coached his sons. Jimmy got up in the morning giving advice, ate meals giving advice and went to bed giving advice to his sons to improve their game. If he was not coaching, he was refereeing, if he was not refereeing, he was lining up the fields. He took much pride in coaching and refereeing and loved working with the children. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Josephine Thompson, Fincastle, Virginia. Five sons, Anthony Stanley and Jimmy Brown both of Roanoke, Virginia. Jimmy Jr. (Amanda Edwards), Marcus, and Joshua Thompson all of Fincastle. Nine grandchildren, Nylesha, Christiansburg, Virginia, Kailana, Galveston Island, Texas, Jalen, Blue Ridge, Virginia, Arianna and Isaiah, Roanoke, Virginia, Kirklen Moore, Charlotte, NC, Devonte Walker, Jalik Preston, Jycer Preston, Roanoke, Virginia Four sisters/two brothers in law, Helen (Arthur) Belcher, Fincastle Virginia, Sandra (Ronald) Brower, Kernersville, NC. , Judy and Vickie Thompson, Fincastle, Virginia. Two brothers/one sister in law, Eugene Thompson, Fincastle, Virginia and Donnie (Dee), Thompson, Roanoke Virginia. Six Great grandchildren, Jasiah, Christiansburg, Virginia, Kamya, Zanariah, Devonte Jr., Deasia, Zyon Walker, Roanoke, Virginia. A devoted cousin (more like a brother), Kenneth Willis, who was always by Jimmy's side the last few years and in his younger years……. you would always see Kenneth and Jimmy riding in the Volkswagen red bug (that he loved so much and just recently restored with his sons). A devoted cousin, Janie Penny Ollie, Roanoke, Virginia. Two devoted nieces, Kenya Thompson, Fincastle, VA and Mia Brower, Kernersville, NC. Three devoted nephews, Tommy Thompson, Troy Thompson and Marvin Thompson, Fincastle, Virginia. A friend, Sheila Tinsley, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A void has been left in the lives of many due to the home going of Jimmy, our loved one. But he left a lot of wonderful memories that will be cherished by family and friends. Message from Jimmy to all…………………………….."I JUST LOOOOOVE YOU" The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Sunday, August 2, 2020 and Funeral Services will be held at 2pm Monday, August 3, 2020 all at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his honor to Lily of the Valley Baptist Church, PO Box 69 Fincastle, VA 24090.
