Jimmy Dale Bernard, 83, died peacefully in the VA hospital on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was a long time resident of Troutville, and will be missed by many. Jim was a retired Military Sargent in the United States Air Force. A veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, he served from 1952-1972. Jim also retired from ITT-Fiber Optics in Roanoke. Jim was born on July 27, 1934 in Welch, West Virginia to the late Curtis G. Bernard and Mamie Sarver. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Bernard; daughters, Kathryn Bloomquist, Marion Tapp, Revonda Thomas, Kathy Campbell, and Sandy (Howard) Altis; sons, Ray (Susie) Bernard, and Michael (Carol) Bernard; brother, William "Pete" (Nancy) Bernard; grandchildren, Michael Bernard, Louis Bernard, Nicole Seaman, Shae (Russell) Prusak, Sarah Arledge; nine great-grandchildren, and his cat companion, Toni. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held 1pm, Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Rd., Roanoke, VA. Jim requested no flowers, but having a special place in his heart for animals, donations may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA or a charity of your choice.
