James Phillip (Skipper) Mundy, 76, of Buchanan, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. He was born March 24, 1935 and was the son of the late James L. and Ella Marie Mundy. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Mundy; brother, William Mundy; and a grandchild, Billie Jo Sifford. He attended Buchanan High School, enrolled in the US Marine Corps and served over 20 years in the US Army with two tours in Viet Nam. Skipper was a member of the Springwood Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing , and his garden. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sue Mundy; children, Jimmy Mundy of Bedford, Brian (Julie) Mundy of Georgia, Connie (Charles) Billa of Texas, DeWayne (Ashley) Mundy, Debbie Sifford and friend, Jeff Meade, Teresa (Butch) Berry, all of Buchanan; fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters, Frances Lee Painter of Troutville and Rose Barger of Buchanan; brothers, Lawrence (Becky) Mundy of Roanoke, Charles (Nancy) Mundy, and Ralph (Pat) Mundy, all of Buchanan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Woody officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Springwood Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Choudery and the Salem Virginia Dialysis Unit.
