James Paul Hurst, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Berkshire Health Care Facility in Vinton, Virginia. He was born December 3, 1923 in Nace, Virginia. Preceding him in death were his parents James Webb and Gladys Scaggs Hurst; a brother, Allen Monroe Hurst; and one sister, Jean Coleman. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert G and Yvonne Hurst of Burke, Virginia and one grandson, Mikhail Hurst also of Burke. Paul loved his country and served as a Petty Officer in the US Navy stationed in the Florida Keys during WWII. Paul was employed by Friden/TRW, retiring in 1982. Paul was a tender southern gentleman of quiet demeanor. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing. His love of the outdoors and nature was imparted to his son and grandson. Paul had a wonderful sense of humor and would often tell jokes during family visits. During his later years he continued to enjoy bantering with family about politics and the behaviors of wild animals. Funeral Services will be held 1pm Saturday, July 13, 2013 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery.
