George Lynwood Hayth Jr., known to those who knew and loved him as Buddy, passed away on Monday, October 1. Buddy was born on December 19, 1933 to the late George Lynwood Hayth Sr. and Nina Welch Hayth in Springwood, VA. He is also joining his sister Marie Hayth Beemer and special cousin Ray (Sonny) Barger in Heaven. Buddy leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Geraldine Roberts Hayth. Together, they had three children and dedicated their lives to building a beautiful family and legacy. Buddy is survived by his two sons, G. Lyn (Angela) of Cloverdale, VA, and Daniel (Charlene) of Troutville, VA; his daughter, Sabrina (Jeff) Nelms of Buchanan,VA; his sister, Shirley H. Stinnett and husband, Will; his grandchildren: Justin (Erica) Hayth, Samantha (Aaron) Galanes, Mary Katherine (Trevor) Stahl, Dylan Hayth, and Hannah Nelms; and his great-grandchildren: Logan and Easton Galanes, Skyler and Piper Hayth, Sophia Stahl, and baby Galanes. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his Springwood Baptist Church Family. The only thing that Buddy loved more than his family was the Lord. Buddy grew up in and attended Springwood Baptist Church his entire life. He served as a Deacon, a trustee, sexton of the church cemetery, and a Sunday School teacher. He also took pride in directing the choir for over fifty years. He loved to sing and was often seen preparing music for Wednesday night choir practice, Sunday morning service, and holiday cantatas. He blessed many weddings and other family gatherings with his beautiful voice. Buddy never met a stranger. From working in the Button Factory, serving in the Army, owning his own TV repair business, and working as a Sears & Roebuck Service Repairman, Buddy brightened many people's days and had many stories to tell. Even after his retirement, Buddy still continued to help friends and family with all of their washer, dryer, and TV needs. Dad, Daddy, Bud,Granddaddy Buddy, and GrandBuddy were all terms of endearment used by Buddy's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was happiest when spending time with family. From going on fishing trips, hunting, catching minnows, picking up walnuts, playing in the creek, and playing hide and seek, Buddy had a way of allowing his family the joys of a simpler time. He was a playmate, a friend, and a storyteller. He would tell his family stories of growing up on the farm in Springwood, life on the river at his old homeplace, ancestors, his and Geraldine's time of eating beans and orchard fruits in Washington State, and his adventures with Sonny. He enjoyed recording his memories in his "book" that has been in a work-in-progress for years!
