Geneva Dodd Mateer

Beloved mother, Geneva Dodd Mateer, 80, of Fincastle, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015. She was born November 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Shelor and Rosalia Dodd and was preceded in death by her former husbands, Winfred Ballard, Richard Hipes, and William Mateer. Geneva was a lifelong member of Fincastle United Methodist Church where she joined the church choir at the age of 9. She was a charter member of Fincastle Garden Club, formed for high school members, Botetourt County Chorus, Ladies Auxiliary of Fincastle Fire Department and Crimson Queen Red Hatters. Geneva retired from Heironimus of Roanoke. In 2006, she promoted the first Fincastle High School reunion to be held each October. She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Carl and Bernice Ballard; Clyde Hipes; Alan Hipes; special daughter-in-law, Judy McNabb; grandchildren, Tasha and Jessie Lacks; Derek and Tonya Ballard; also great-grandchildren, Tiffany Bennett, Emily, Ethan, and Elana Ballard; Xander Lacks; sisters, Virginia Smith; Ellalee "Noonie" Vaughn; nephew and wife, Dale and Gerri Vaughn; niece, Terry Vaughn; and great-nephew, Alex Vaughn. The family would like to express a very special thanks to the staff of Carrington Place for their loving care. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Fincastle United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jae-Haeng Choi officiating. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery.
