Gene R. Spangler

Gene Romero Spangler, 72, formerly of Buchanan, was doing what he liked to do best, sleeping, right on into heaven on Monday, December 5, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Ruth Spangler. He was a member of Springwood Baptist Church and a graduate from James River High School. He worked at Johnson Carper then ITT before being drafted in 1965 to the US Army for Viet Nam where he served as a sharp shooter. After he returned from service he worked and retired from Yokohama. Gene loved to hunt, fish, bowl, and shoot pool where he was a sharp shooter. He is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; friends, Linda, Candy, Gary, and the Filling Station folks; special friends and caretakers, Rose Barger and Frances Painter; and the staff of Bethel Ridge. Graveside Services will be held at 11am Thursday, December 8, 2016 in Springwood Baptist Church Cemetery with the Chaplain Steve Shackleford officiating.
