One of God's angels on earth, our beautiful sweet mother, Frances Akers Nelson, 92, of Troutville, went home to be with her heavenly father, she departed from this life at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Born December 10, 1921, a daughter of the late McKinley H. and Eva Akers, she was the last surviving sibling of five children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin D. Nelson and infant daughter, Paulette. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidering, quilting, gardening, bird watching, and cooking. Her grandchildren's fondest memories, was going to grandma's house eating her biscuits, cornbread, homemade soup, and fried apple pies. She had a heart of gold always loving, giving, and caring. Her spirit, faith, and compassion will remain deeply ingrained in all who was fortunate to know and love her. Left to cherish her memory are her ten children, Roger and Diane Nelson of Bedford; Gerry and Carl Taylor of NC; Larry and Tina Nelson of Troutville; Ada and David Taylor of NC; McKinley Nelson of Troutville; Terry and Jackie Nelson of Troutville; Andrew Nelson of Bedford; Ruby and Wayne Keith of Troutville; Julie Russell of Troutville; and Jackie and Lynn Blankenship of Troutville; twenty grandchildren; Greg, Melisha, Carla, Leisa, Jesse, Michael, Dee, Ann, Linda, Bobby, Jennifer, Terry Jr., Lance, Jamie, Crista, David, Cheyenne, Erin, Sean Jr., Lacey; 45 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Frances's Life will be held 6pm, Friday, January 17, 2014 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Mays officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6pm before the service. Graveside services will be held at 1pm in Elgood Cemetery in Elgood, WV. The family would like to thank Rachael Buffie, Troy, and Andrea with Amedysis Hospice for their wonderful care. "If roses grow in heaven Lord, please pick a bunch for us, place them in mom's arms and tell her they're from us. Tell her we love her and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile." We were truly blessed to have you for our Mother.
