Reverend Emmit H. Jones was born March 6th, 1950, in Buchanan, VA, where he grew up. He attended James River High School and finished with a GED. He served in the US Army and fought in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Shortly after his military service he married Deborah. They had one daughter, Alicia, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Leroy Nathaniel Jones and Carrie Ardelia Day Jones; 3 brothers and 1 sister; and a special nephew, David Johnson.
Left to cherish his love are wife, Deborah; David’s children, Marcus and Jordan and grandchild, Wyatt, who knew him as Papa; and Emmit’s grandchildren, Jacob Rosser and Makayla Rosser.
Emmit always kept his faith in God. In his many years of sickness, he always said “I know that God will see me through.” He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at First Church of God in Christ of Buchanan for the second time. He was first baptized and joined First Baptist Church of Buchanan at a very early age. Upon moving to Roanoke, he moved his membership to Reed Street Baptist of Vinton. He was licensed and served as associate minister. He and his wife later ministered at Jackson Baptist Church in Springwood, VA until he became ill. Emmit drove a truck, and he worked at Groendyk in Buchanan for many years. He worked on cars. He loved children and had a lot of patience with them. Living in Buchanan, he helped coach his daughter’s T-ball team along with Virgil and Geneno. He also liked to cook and bake cakes.
A special thanks to his nephew, David Brown, Jr., who called him every day and came and helped around the home. Emmit loved and appreciated you, and so do I. To all his family and friends who came by or called during the years of his illness just to check on him, thank you, and I know Emmit appreciated it more than you know.
To Ray, Bobbi, and Karen and the Botetourt Funeral Home family, Emmit and I have known and loved you all down through the years. You have become like family to us. We have lost many loved ones along the way, and because of your loving and compassionate hearts in handling our loss, it made losing them a little more bearable. I love you all and thank God for you. May He continue to richly bless you.
To all who have helped at this time of our loss, I do so appreciate and love you. May God richly bless you all.
