Elizabeth Trent Marshall

Elizabeth Trent Marshall, 95, of Buchanan, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Born February 9, 1915, in Campbell County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Reverend David Gilliam and Edna Maddox Trent. She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Frank O. and Nell A. Marshall; brothers Lawrence Trent and wife Mamie, Irvin Trent and wife Gilberta, Eran Trent and wife Marie, Thelbert Trent and wife Florence, and David Trent and wife Mildred; sisters-in-law Jacqueline Marshall, Doris Stevens, Genevieve Marshall and Imogene Marshall; and brother-in-law John M. Tabb. Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, James Eldridge Marshall; daughter Anne M. Lewit and husband Robert of Christiansburg, VA; son J. Irvin Marshall and wife Rosemary of Fishersville, VA; grandchildren Brittani Lewit-Puchalla and husband Joel of Lincoln, NE, Christopher A. Lewit and fiancée Kristen Tetreault of Dumfries, VA, and Laura Lyons of Potomac Falls, VA; a sister, Rachel Tabb of Williamsburg, VA; brothers-in-law Billy Marshall of Buchanan, VA, Warren Stevens of Fincastle, VA, and Gerald Marshall and wife Linda of Buchanan, VA; special nephew Lawrence Trent, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA ; and many nieces, nephews and their families. Elizabeth received her undergraduate degree from Longwood University. She began a teaching career in Gloucester County, VA, and came to Botetourt County in 1943. She taught in Botetourt County Schools and retired from James River High School after 32 years of service, 19 in Guidance Counseling. Elizabeth was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Buchanan, where her father had served as pastor. She served on many committees, including the United Methodist Women. She served as Choir Director for over 40 years and later as accompanist for the choir. Elizabeth was an accomplished artist and her home is graced by many of her drawings and paintings. The family would like to give special recognition to her long term caregivers, Genevieve Brown, Nancy Britt and Sarah Irwin, and special thanks to her Trinity United Methodist Church family, both past and present. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Botetourt County Emergency Services, 205 North Roanoke Street, Suite 1, Fincastle, VA 24090 be considered. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Buchanan, with Pastor Mike Huffman officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, VA, (540) 254-3000.
