Elizabeth Ardelia "Dea" Smith, 82, of Buchanan, joined her Heavenly family on Friday, February 15, 2019. She is now with her parents, Dorothy Markham Smith and Clarence Bell Smith; her beloved sister, Susie Smith Lann; and brother, Norman Odell Smith. Born in Buchanan, she played basketball at BHS and Madison College (JMU). She was blessed and scored game high of forty points at both BHS and JMU. She later learned that she was among the top ten scorers of the High Scorers at JMU. Dea received her Master's Degree of UVA. A devoted teacher and coach, she was named "Virginia Physical Educator" in 1975 had State winners in Track and Gymnastics. In 2011, she was listed in the Cambridge "Who's Who" as a retired educator. An avid sports fan, Dea watched basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, baseball - especially tournaments! Dea is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, C. Wayne and Debbie Smith; Raymond H. and Sandy Smith; and Violet Smith; a host of special nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces, nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm with services at 2pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in Buchanan Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marina Gopadze and Rev. Skip Hastings officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
