Elizabeth "Betsy" Helms

Elizabeth "Betsy" Owen Helms, 69, of Buchanan, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 31, 2013. She was born October 30, 1943. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse R. Owen; brother, Raymond R. "Ronnie" Owen; brother-in-law, Gary Morris, and special friends, Bernie and Jake Harris. She is survived by her children, Loretta Reedy of Florida; Timothy Helms of Selma, VA; and Duane Helms and his wife, Kathy, and her precious granddaughter, Briana of Houston, TX; mother, Ruby Owen, Carrington Place in Daleville; sister, Rebecca "Becky" Morris of Buchanan; brother, Jesse L. Owen and wife, Becky of Boones Mill, VA; special nephews, Jonathan and wife, Heather, Jason and wife, Felissa, Randy, Paul and wife, Carley, and Charlie; special niece Jessica and husband, Michael, great-nieces, Makenzie, Kaylee, Emily, Korie, Blakely, and Kadence; very special great-nephew, Hayden, who always had hugs for his Aunt Betsy and loved to help clean and dust; and a special friend, Anderson Harris. Betsy lived a simple life, loved the outdoors, anything she planted grew, because she planted it under the right sign. She was an artist from oils, sketches, and ceramics. She helped Andy on the farm, from cooking on the wood stove, birthing calves, working in the garden, and many duties of the farm. This was the life she loved; nature, planting, working with her hands, and she did it all with a smile. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Thursday, February 7, 2013 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Southern officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service. Interment will be private.
