Donald Rae Brown

Donald Rae Brown, 69, of Buchanan, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, December 17, 2011 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Donald was born on January 18, 1942 in Cloverdale, VA. He was the son of Hiram Nathan Brown and Beulah Grice Brown. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby and Kenneth Brown. Donald was a faithful member of Faith Community Church in Buchanan. He was employed for 32 years at Gilliam and Mundy Drilling Company. Besides the love of his family and friends, his love was hunting and flowers. He is survived by the love of his life of 48 years, his devoted wife, Barbara Driscoll Brown; his devoted son, Ron Brown and wife, Caroline of Monroe, NC; his devoted daughter, Donna Brown of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Tori Anne and Seth of Monroe, NC; three granddogs, Kayla, Chance, and Cuddles; two brothers, Gene and Sharon Brown of Chambersburg, PA; Wayne and Kay Brown of Fincastle; six sisters, Linda Henninger of Roanoke; Edie and Bruce Olecki of Acworth, GA; Eula Kanode of Troutville; Peggy and Eddie Dement of Chambersburg, PA; JoAnne Murphy of Hepzibah, GA; and Betty Mitchell of Troutville; mother-in-law, Wyma Phillips of Buena Vista; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Driscoll of Africa, Sharon and Jack Tomlinson of Stuarts Draft, Terri and Ray Wilmer of Buena Vista, Carolyn and Tommy Harrison of Lexington, and E.G. Phillips of Buena Vista; and many nieces and nephews. Also many more devoted family, friends, and neighbors including special devoted friends, Dolly Montgomery, Clyde and Gail White, Tom and Laura Wilbon, all of Buchanan, Gus Risso of Mineral, VA; and Ron and Theresa Hood of Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Community Church, PO Box 1032, Buchanan, VA 24066 or the Amedisys Hospice Care, 1312 West Main St., Salem, VA 24153. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8pm, Monday, December 19, 2011.
