David Maslin ‘Mr B’ Botkin passed away unexpectantly at his home in Botetourt County on Oct 21, 2022, he was 75. David was born at home in Churchville, Virginia on Sep 6, 1947, to his late parents Joseph Samuel and Mary Marguerite (Rankin) Botkin. David was the second youngest of eleven children.
David moved to the Clifton area of Cincinnati, Ohio when he was 14 and lived with his older sister Annie and brother Loring. David attended Schwab Junior and Central Tech High Schools where he accelerated in track and gymnastics. This is also where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Lee Campbell.
David began working at General Electric as a bench hand while in High School and in Oct 1965 enlisted in the US Air Force as an C 130 Hercules A Model Jet Engine Mechanic and was stationed at Rickenbacker Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio. Later he was assigned to the 463 Field Maintenance Squadron in the Philippines. He was honorably discharge in Oct 1969 and went back to work for General Electric as a welder and remained there until he retired in 2004.
On 1 Apr 1967 David and Carolyn were wed in Cincinnati, Ohio surrounded by their many family members and friends. Together they created three daughters and built and amazing life and love story together, through thick and thin until he lost his beloved wife and best friend on Jan 4, 2005.
David loved cars, playing the guitar, telling stories, the Cincinnati Bengals and being with his family, and most of all he adored his granddaughter Maslyn, she was the apple of his eye.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is proceeded in death by his youngest daughter, Jo Sunjo Lee Botkin, brothers, Frank, John, Teddy Botkin, Max Phillips, Bill, George, and Michael Campbell. Sisters Ruby Phillips (Botkin), Joyce Campbell (Cox), and Helena Wells (Campbell).
David leaves behind his daughters, Contina and Kerry (Bevis) Botkin and Barbara and Danielle (Thomas) Botkin. Brothers and sister in laws, Freddie (Linda) Botkin, Joe (Brenda) Botkin, Loring (Wanda) Botkin, Tony (Anna) Campbell, David Campbell, Ron (Debbie) Campbell, John (Lynn) Campbell and Paul (Angie) Campbell. Sisters and brother in laws, Anna Freeman, Nancy Botkin, Rosalie Smith, Betty Bodkin, Sharon Botkin, Ros Marie (Chuck) Vitatoe, Cheryl Campbell. Grandchildren, Bradley Kiehborth, Kaitlyn (Jessica) Flick, Joseph Meyer, Maslyn Botkin, Leo Plunkett, and great-grandson Liam Kiehborth. Also, many, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held at 1100 on Oct 29, 2022, at the Botetourt Funeral Home, service to be held at noon. Family and friends to meet following the service at the Fincastle Methodist Church.
Per David’s wishes, he will be cremated, and ashes reunited with Carolyn in a family ceremony at Lake Moomaw, Virginia, at a date and time to be determined later. There will also be a Celebration of Life in Cincinnati for family and friends, details to follow.
