Clyde Markham, Jr.

May 1, 1958 — February 5, 2022

Clyde has been promoted, having been called to make his final move to be with his savior on February 2,2022. He was a Christian, a saved sinner called to preach when he was 16 years old. He was born at the old Madison Hospital in Madison, West Virginia on May 1,1958 to Clyde Markham, Sr., and Josie Tincher Markham. He leaves behind the joy of his life, his wife Robin J Markham. He is also survived by his brother Fonzo (Sue) Tincher of Charleston, South Carolina, three nieces and several great nieces, a special cousin Rita and Mike Nettles of Texas along with numerous other cousins. He leaves behind several pets who were like his children. He was a member of the Wharton Missionary Baptist Church in Wharton, West Virginia. He was licensed to preach the gospel by this church and served as a Sunday School teacher of the youth, young adults, and the senior women's class. He also directed Vacation Bible School. He served in the position of leadership for the Baptist adult and youth fellowship joining them in the choir and directing when needed. Clyde was the devotional leader and lead the choir in the leader’s absence. He served as a delegate to the West Virginia State Baptist Convention and served in the Men's Baptist Fellowship. He participated in the soul winning programs of the church and attended workshops of the American Baptist Organization for pastor salaries, finances, insurance and housing allowances. He also tutored students in Mathematics, English, and Science. Clyde served as general manager to the Van Public Service District, the South Boone Public Service District, and the Coal River Public Service District. Clyde was also owner of several businesses providing consultation services to them. He was instrumental in developing the first software that was designed for utility billing and management. He served as an inspector for Boone County on various water projects for the Van Public Service District and the South Boone Public Service District. He was a licensed Water Treatment operator holding a class 1 and 2 license; he was a certified septic system installer and a licensed sewer treatment operator. Clyde worked with the chief chemist of the health department of West Virginia and was fortunate to work with the engineering and finance staff of the Public Service Commission. He also worked with the FHA coordinating financing water system repayments and new finance for rehabilitation and extensions. He was a member of the Boone County Parks and Recreation board. Clyde was certified by the Public Service to serve on Public Service District Boards. He joined the Van Volunteer Fire Department as a junior firefighter at age 15 serving as member, secretary, and photographer of the department for years. He worked closely with the State Fire Marshal's office. Clyde held fire fighter 1 and 2 certification. He worked as a dispatcher and assisted in the jail for the Boone County sheriff's office. He received training from the West Virginia State Police for bomb threat and bomb scene control. He was certified as an EMT and worked for the Aid Harless Ambulance Service for several years. Clyde was a reporter and photographer for the Coal Valley News and the Boone Frontier Newspapers. He spent many years in West Virginia as a pulpit fill-in for pastors of churches that were without a pastor. He assisted in starting the Peyton Baptist Church as a fill-in pastor until a pastor was found. He also served as a cadet in the Madison Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. He loved his heavenly Father and Robin, his youth love and wife more than anything on earth. Robin provided his Total Care as the ravages of injury and illness destroyed his physical health. His favorite song was “I am a winner either way.” In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the Botetourt Funeral Home. If you do not know Jesus as your personal savior, it is not too late to call upon his name and confess your sins, repent, and accept him as your savior. Follow him and serve him before it is eternally too late. A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Fairview Cemetery Pavilion in Buchanan.
