Andrew "Andy" Sherman Hickman

Andrew "Andy" Sherman Hickman, 72, of Natural Bridge, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Andy was born in Alleghany on December 7, 1942 and raised in Eagle Rock by his late parents, James Millard and Betty Sloan Hickman. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Arlene Link Hickman; daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and David Walker of Buena Vista; Janet and Randall Floyd of Buena Vista; Teresa and Chris Joynes of Buchanan; five grandchildren, Daniel Floyd of Lexington; Taylor Walker of Buena Vista; Christopher (Drew) Hickman of Buchanan; Cari Floyd of Buena Vista; Cloey Joynes of Buchanan; two great-grandchildren, Micah and Maycie Floyd. Also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Etta and Lee Alexander of Eagle Rock; brother, Stanley Hickman of Buchanan; foster son, Dennis Erdmann of Alabama; a 45 year navy friend, John Solt; and special friends, Susie and Lester Kennedy and Tim and Sis Plogger. Andy was a Veteran of the US Navy where he retired after 20 years of service. He then worked at Georgia Bonded Fibers in Buena Vista for 18 years. Andy was very brave and fought hard for 22 years against cancer. He is a lifetime member of Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren in Eagle Rock. Funeral Services will be held 11am Friday, March 27, 2015 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with the Rev. Lester Kennedy and the Rev. Doris Hicks officiating.
